Bug In My Ear

If you’re phobic about bugs crawling on you, please feel free to skip this part of the newsletter.

Imagine being awakened in the wee hours of the morning to a loud noise and a slight pain in your ear. We’ll lucky me, I don’t have to imagine it.

A small bug crawled into my ear as I was sleeping. It was all I could do to not panic and claw at my ear. Okay I panicked a little.

I got out of bed and started to shake my head a bit to see if the bug would fall out. When that didn’t work, I sat down and began to research how to get a bug out of your ear on my phone. This in itself was a challenge. I couldn’t get face ID to work, and my hand was shaking so much it was difficult to type in my access code.

As I sat there, I started to calm down a bit, and my shaking slowed. This must have relaxed my ear or something as the bug started to back out. This actually hurt a little bit, and it was so loud. You could hear every movement the bug was making as it slid against the ear wax. It was all I could do to not swat at my ear.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the bug finally made its way out of my ear canal. Feeling its legs crawl around on the outside of my ear was almost as panic inducing as it being in my ear. The bug dropped to the floor. Since I still had my phone in my hands, I quickly took its picture before it scurried off. It was a small thin beetle of some kind.

I sat there for a few hours until I finally calmed down enough to go back to bed. This is one experience I hope to never repeat.

More later. Time to think about pest control.
